A company name is the name of a registered legal entity (like “Pty Ltd” or “Ltd”), while a business name is the name under which a business operates, which may or may not be the same as the company name.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

Company Name:

This is the name of the legal entity registered with ASIC (Australian Securities & Investments Commission).

It’s the name that appears on official documents like contracts and bank statements.

It typically includes terms like “Pty Ltd” or “Ltd” to indicate the company’s legal structure.

A company name identifies the legal entity that owns the business.

Business Name (or Trading Name):

This is the name under which a business operates and is known to the public.

It can be the same as the company name, or a company can choose to operate under a different name.

If a business operates under a name different from its company name, it must register that business name with ASIC.

A business name is key to a business’s public identity and customer recognition.

If you have received multiple business name renewal notifications please understand that you only need to choose one ASIC Registered Agent to perform your renewal. You only need to pay for your business name renewal ONCE.

We offer the cheapest 3-year Business Name Renewal (as an ASIC Registered Agent with Discount Code). You can renew your business name by entering your Letter Reference Number here.

Please disregard any other notification letters or emails you receive.

If you still have questions or concerns about who and how you should pay for your business name renewal, please call us on 1300 060 066 during business hours and one of our staff members will be more than happy to help.

You can securely pay your 1-Year or 3-Year business name renewal by Credit Card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) by entering your Letter Reference Number here.

Ensure you renew your business name every year or every three years or else ASIC may cancel your business name. A business name is simply a name or title under which a person, or other legal entity, trades.

It not only identifies you to your customers, but also allows you to differentiate yourself from your competitors and enables your customers to make an emotional connection to your business and brand.

For many businesses, the business name is often the most valuable asset, alongside the business’ domain name and email address.
